Ampharete lindstroemi
Ampharete lindstroemi can be up to 12 mm long. It can be found along the entire Norwegian coast at depths between 8 and 2000 meters.
Type locality
Bohuslän, Sweden.
Key characters
Measurements: Up to 12 mm long.
Number of thoracic chaetigers, excluding paleae: 14
Number of thoracic uncinigers: 12
Number of abdominal uncinigers: 12
Prostomium: Trilobed; one to three pairs of eyespots.
Mouth tentacles: Papillose.
Branchiae: Four pairs of branchiae in two groups separated by distance equal to one branchial base diameter; three branchiae in each group in transverse row, fourth branchia behind middle one of the three; branchial bases on each side fused.
Paleae: Long with filiform tips; 7–10 chaetae on each side.
Special features: None.
Pygidium: With two long lateral cirri and several small rounded papillae; one pair of eyespots present.
Tube: Thin layer of organic secretion covered with a loose layer of mud with attached shell fragments.
Distribution
Entire Norwegian coast; 8 m (Holthe 1986a) to 2000 m (own observations).
Remarks
As reported by Jirkov (2001) A. lindstroemi is a species complex. Based on our unpublished data, A. lindstroemi is represented by two genetic clades in Norwegian waters.
