Who, what, how?
The Norwegian Red List of Ecosystems 2018 has been prepared by the Norwegian Biodiversity Information Centre in cooperation with experts from research institutions. The assessments encompass all nature in Norway, apart from heavily modified nature. The ecosystem types are assessed using an international methodology developed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN.
The Norwegian Red List of Ecosystems 2018 is the second official overview of red-listed ecosystem types. It is a value-neutral compilation of knowledge, indicating the risk of collapse for ecosystems in Norway, if the prevailing circumstances persist.
The ecosystem types are assessed using an international methodology, developed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN. A committee of experts assesses each ecosystem type against quantitative criteria. On the basis of this assessment, the ecosystem types are assigned to different risk categories. The aim is that the assessments are objective and verifiable.
