Soppriket omfatter 8418 påviste arter i Norge, og flesteparten er sekksporesopper eller stilksporesopper, Av de vurderte artsgruppene regnes kun fem grupper som godt kjent. 'Kantlav' er den største artsgruppen (1657 arter) der kunnskapen om taksonomi, utbredelse og økologi er vurdert som generell mangelfull

Sopper er flercellete organismer uten fotosyntese, men mange arter lever i symbiose med fotosyntetiserende alger og danner lav. Mange av artene i soppriket er små, terrestriske parasitter eller symbionter.

Hvilke artsgrupper er vurdert?

Innenfor sekksporesopper (Ascomycota) mangler det vurderinger for underrekken ‘ekte gjærsopp’ (Saccharomycotina), for enkelte artsgrupper av ‘ekte sekksporesopper’ (Pezizomycotina) og for tre klasser av ‘ursekksporesopper’ (Taphrinomycotina): ‘narreklubbemorkler’ (Neolectomycetes), ‘lungecystesopper’ (Pneumocystidomycetes) og ‘spaltegjær’ (Schizosaccharomycetes).

For mange av ordenene innenfor ‘ekte sekksporesopper’ har kun utvalgte slekter eller familier blitt vurdert, selv om det i de fleste tilfeller også har blitt gjort en samlevurdering for ordenen som helhet. En utfordring med sekksporesoppene er at eksperter ofte jobber med økologiske grupper som går på tvers av de taksonomiske skillelinjene. Eksempler på slike grupper er underjordiske sopper, barklevende sopper og lavdannende sopper. Mens kompetansen på de ulike økologiske gruppene er høy, er det vanskelig å finne eksperter med god totaloversikt over artsmangfoldet i den enkelte familie, orden eller underrekke.

Innenfor stilksporesopper (Basidiomycota) har samtlige underrekker blitt vurdert, og vurderingene er også gjort på familie- eller slektsnivå.

Endomykorrhizasopper (Glomeromycota) er ikke vurdert. Gruppen har 10 kjente arter i Norge. Slekten Erineum, med 3 kjente arter i Norge, er heller ikke vurdert.

Hvor mange arter finnes i Norge?

Med 8418 påviste arter i Norge er soppriket det nest største riket. De to hovedgruppene innen soppene er sekksporesopper med 4570 kjente arter og stilksporesopper med 3804 kjente arter.

De øvrige seks rekkene inneholder til sammen bare 44 påviste arter, men enkelte av rekkene er dårlig undersøkt og kan inneholde mange uoppdagede arter.

Hvor god kunnskap har vi om artsgruppene?

I soppriket er kunnskapen svak (kategori 2) for flere artsgrupper både av sekksporesopper og stilksporesopper. ‘Kantlav’ utgjør den største artsgruppen (1657 arter) hvor kunnskapen om taksonomi, utbredelse og økologi er mangelfull. Klassen omfatter i hovedsak arter som danner lav i symbiose med grønnalger eller blågrønnbakterier.

Av de vurderte artsgruppene i soppriket regnes kun fem artsgrupper som godt kjent (kategori 4 – 5). Tre av disse tilhører stilksporesoppene: 255 arter av rustsopper (Pucciniales), 85 arter av ekte sotsopper (Ustilaginomycetes) og 55 arter av klumpbladsopper (Exobasidiomycetes). To artsgrupper av sekksporesopper er også vurdert som godt kjent: orden Erysiphales med 79 arter (tilhører småbegersoppene) og heksekostsopper (Taphrinomycetes) som har 31 påviste arter. Dette tilsier at bare 6 % av alle påviste sopparter er godt kjente i Norge.
